Hello Everyone. My name is Tom Flight and I am a grade six teacher at St. Andrews School. As I was walking into Daerwood this afternoon, I was thinking that 9 years ago I started at this very school teaching grade six. A little bit about myself- I am married: my wife is a teacher (grade one/reading recovery) and we have one daughter who is 8 years old. All of us enjoy travelling and we are looking forward to a short trip to Vancouver in February ( on the long wkend). This summer, I am hoping to go to Montreal, as I have been accepted to the Canadian Space Agency (no, not as an astronaut, but that would be a great trip) to attend the Educator's Conference. Anybody out there with some pull, funding would be appreciated.
In my classroom, I am hoping to have students engaged in using technology to communicate with one another, present information and projects and eventually collaborate on a joint project. Currently, the students are in the process of creating a brochure to visit a planet. I am actively using the Smartboard and the students have been using it to enhance short oral presentations ( which I do on a weekly basis).

In our group: time for PD- the technology moves so fast and that there are so many things to learn, that we are finding that it is difficult to keep up. With new curric., it is difficult to find the time to get the material/sites to use in class. lab time is limited, esp. when some schools do not have sufficient laptops to support tech. material.
Actual logging in of laptops is PAINFUL. The students are beginning to become frustrated when the cart with the laptops come in, as they have to wait for almost 30-40 minutes for the class to log in. this is difficult when working within a specific time frame and the students have to leave for their next class, or the teacher has to leave. i actually have had the students log in on local users and save info to the laptops, but if the laptop is down or out of the building, students do not have something from which to work.
Sometimes need to have help/support avail on call. Hello Everyone. My name is Tom Flight and I am a grade six teacher at St. Andrews School. I am hoping to do more work this year with using podcasts. Last year, I had students put together a digital book report and had a voice over using garage band podcast. However, lots of difficulties using the laptops and not being able to transfer information to their accounts on the network. The versions of garage band were not compatible and material was lost or did not play correctly. I did not upload these to the net, but think this year I would like to upload this.
This year, I would like to have the students use e-pearl as a portfolio. I'm not sure how I would like to do this, but would like to bring this to the building and also work with Margie Edkins, who is excited to do this at our school.
having been introduced to wikis, I would like to use them this year, but still trying to wrap my head around what type of assignments to give to the students and have something worthwhile, rather than a disjointed one shot deal.
